Denmark allows N Stream-2 to finish pipeline with new vessels

MOSCOW, Jul 6 (PRIME) -- The Danish Energy Agency (DEA) has allowed Nord Stream 2 AG, operator of the Russian gas pipeline project Nord Stream-2 to use pipeline laying vessels with position mooring equipment, the agency said in a statement on Monday.

"The DEA has at the request of Nord Stream 2 AG made a decision to change the condition to use pipelaying vessels with self-positioning (DP (dynamic positioning) pipe-laying vessels) in the construction permit for the Nord Stream 2 pipelines, which the DEA granted Nord Stream 2 AG on October 30, 2019. The change means that the company can use pipe-laying vessels with anchors, either independently or in combination with DP pipe-laying vessels," the agency said.

The Nord Stream-2 project envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Russian gas giant Gazprom is implementing the project together with Germany’s E.ON and BASF, Royal Dutch Shell, OMV, and France’s Engie. The length of the pipeline’s route exceeds 1,200 kilometers.
